Brazilian Jiujitsu

Brazilian jiujitsu is world-renowned for its innovative grappling and submission techniques, as well as its emphasis on a strategic mindset in groundfighting.

While the Ultimate Fighting Championship first brought Brazilian jiujitsu to the eyes of many in the early 1990s, its reputation was already well-established. Brazilian jiujitsu has a rich heritage which can be traced back all the way to the late 1920s.

Like traditional Japanese jujutsu, Brazilian jiujitsu focuses on utilizing leverage and technique rather than brute force to overcome an opponent. Brazilian jiujitsu also emphasizes a positional strategy in groundfighting, to attain a dominant position over one's opponent and establish solid control prior to executing attacks.

As well as exceptional instruction in the art of grappling, this class also offers an excellent workout that will improve one's cardivascular fitness, strength and coordination.

The system of Brazilian jiujitsu offered at the Kodenkan Martial Arts Academy was developed by Gustavo Dantas (www.gdjiujitsu.com), a two-time World Champion, a 2008 Brazilian National Champion and a 2009 Rixon Gracie Cup Champion.
